'Living a Nightmare': Relatives of Missing Teens Await Information After Alpine Inferno
The families of young people unaccounted for after a devastating blaze at a bar in a Swiss winter destination are confronting an agonising wait for official news and requesting clues about their loved ones online.
The fire ripped through the a popular bar in the alpine resort, located in the Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the middle of the night of the first day of the year. Verified footage reveal the ceiling catching alight as bottles with fireworks are held aloft.
Authorities have stated that it could take considerable time to identify the fatalities of the fire, which resulted in the death of numerous partygoers and wounded another 119. Officials noted on Friday that 113 of the those hurt have been identified, with work still underway to locate the other six.
In the meantime, loved ones have been posting on online platforms to plead for clues about their missing relatives who were present at the venue that night.
Heartbreaking Pleas for the Missing
The fate of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, sixteen, are still unconfirmed, according to an public plea from his parent.
The who lives of a town near the city, told a local newspaper that she had returned to the city to see if he was in the hospital, while his other parent did the equivalent search in Bern, but was unsuccessful.
"I'm living a nightmare, a horror. The options are finding my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in critical condition. It's terrible," she stated.
She added that some of his companions had been discovered with injuries covering nearly half their bodies. "There are no words; they experienced a terrifying ordeal."
The Italian government has indicated that a number of of its young people have not been located.

The national sporting body has released a tribute that he is no longer with us, without directly referencing the fire, honoring a "young athlete who carried with him dedication and authentic values."
His parent, reportedly stated that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around the new year. An official spokesperson has stated that a formal confirmation of his death is awaited.
Other Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is also among the missing. His mother told reporters that he had been on holiday but had gone out with friends and found himself at the bar.
"A companion informed me they fled after the fire started and that he had his mobile with him, but then at a specific moment he they were separated," she recounted, adding he had been wearing a distinctive piece of jewelry.
One of his educators stated, "I've always been struck by his kindness and positive demeanor, alongside great maturity. Often ask if help out."
Alice Kallergis, who holds both Greek and Swiss nationality but lives permanently in the country, was also present on that night, according to media.
Her brother has posted an urgent request on social media, saying the relatives has had "no updates" regarding the 15-year-old or the three friends she was with, who are also unaccounted for.
Consular authorities from her country of origin say they are closely watching the situation.
