Pat Bamford Signs With Sheffield United Despite Initiating Abusive Chants About Coach Wilder
The striker has signed with Sheffield United only half a year after instigating insulting taunts targeting the team's coach, Chris Wilder.
This experienced striker, without a club after departing from Leeds United, has agreed to a deal joining the second-tier strugglers until January. Bamford's lengthy career at Elland Road was ended by mutual consent this past summer.
One of Bamford’s last memorable actions while at Leeds involved leading offensive songs about Chris Wilder amid Leeds' promotion celebrations in April. Now, the former England player is set to play for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss aims to lift his beloved club away from the drop zone.
Past History Between the Striker and the Manager
The pair had a past prior to Leeds moved up to the Premier League last season while Sheffield United lost the promotion decider by Sunderland. Wilder described the forward as “a muppet” back when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and the Blades secured direct promotion while Leeds United missed out in the playoffs.
Reconciliation and Moving Forward
Everything seems has been put behind them with United, the Championship’s least productive attack, in desperate need of a boost up front while Bamford hoping to revive his playing days.
The Wilder chant gained traction in April. An apologetic Bamford and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, called Wilder the following day.
Wilder said at the time: “Had a conversation with Patrick yesterday and I’ve no problem at all with that. I’m not sure regarding the language from a fellow professional! However I appreciated and respected him giving me a call.
“We spent 20 minutes and similarly I talked with Daniel as well and we had a longer discussion with him and he's a super guy, a top guy. When I was playing we would give it and take it and that is an integral part of the game at every level, including a Sunday morning. I have absolutely no issue. I'm fine with the situation and I told him that to Patrick.”
Recent Career Struggles
The forward featured in 18 games with Leeds United last season however the ex- Forest, Chelsea FC & Middlesbrough striker has faced difficulties with injury over the past few seasons.
