Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hard courts
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his maiden title for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.
Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a difficult year, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.
The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in especial - caused him falling of the elite rankings and eventually separating with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.
Now training with his coach and Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought three-set win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.
This marks his first championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt after spring of that year.
Victory also means Medvedev has secured 21 titles at twenty-one different events.
"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters at once, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," said ranked player the champion.
"This title is in honour of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter her name was delivered was for her."
The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, including in the German tournament previously this season.
His defensive approach and recurring reactions on the playing surface had prompted some to wonder if his ability to play at the highest level was finished.
But the athlete has made changes in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and perform aggressively, reinforced by an better service.
The champion fought back from a break down in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, taking 4 of the concluding five points to take the lead.
Both players traded breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his first ATP Tour championship, took control to force a third set.
The opponent rescued 4 early-game chances in a close final set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.
Appropriately, the winner clinched the win with a shot at the net, with his opponent failing to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
