Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Loss
Arne Slot conceded that it was natural for questions to be raised about his position following another heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in 12 games, representing the club's poorest streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a punishing evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received plenty of support from the top,” Slot commented.
“It's important to reverse this trend and get a victory naturally but if you are working as a coach and struggling then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with The Board
When asked to elaborate on his dialogues with the team officials, Slot explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal discussions I feel the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat so far so we'll see.”
Familiar Issues and Squad Response
Slot highlighted familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder stated.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a period like this with performances so bad.”
Jones concluded, “However we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And as long as that badge is removed, we'll continue to compete.”
“We will attempt to get this team back to its rightful place, prove once more the values of this club and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“But right now, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
