The network's Premier New Show of 2025 Earns a Significant Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.
Last October, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the network launched a brand-new animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, evoking a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. At a time often marked by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and turned it into a surprise hit.
A Significant Investment
In mid-December, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."
Network Praise
Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and championed its uniquely offbeat style.
"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about following this endearing family navigate their daily lives.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running cynical streak. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
The Path Forward
Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well be part of that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to bask in the heartfelt moments of the beloved Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
