Toronto Blue Jays Claim World Series Meeting Against defending champion Dodgers
The outfielder contributed to the Astros claiming the World Series in 2017.
Canada's MLB team reached their maiden World Series since the 1993 season by overcoming the Mariners in the seventh Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.
Behind 3-1, Springer hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning, guiding the sole Canadian team in MLB to a 4-3 series triumph in the series. Awaiting them are the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are the reigning title, in the anticipated Fall Classic.
"It's incredible for this squad, Toronto, our country," commented Springer, a star of the Astros team that won the 2017 World Series. "It's truly an unbelievable moment."
George Springer has now hit 23 October home runs, ranking him third all-time trailing only Manny Ramirez (29) and Altuve (twenty-seven).
"There's probably not anyone else in the world that I want up in that spot other than Springer with his post-season brilliance," said Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, continue to be the sole team yet to make an appearance in a championship series.
Wilson commented "there's no question that it's painful" following his side's defeat at Rogers Centre, but commended their efforts in the campaign.
"This is a unique group. It's a shame that we had to come out on the losing end of this one," he added.
Toronto's team won the championship on both previous visits in the early 90s, and are set to host the Dodgers in the opener on Friday.
